Teens and Sex

There was an article in the New York Times last week about the rise in rates of teen pregnancy. This is a very serious issue and I want to take a moment to talk to my readers about teen sex and abstinence. Unfortunately kids are starting to experiment earlier and this means parents need to talk to their kids earlier, before they get wrong information from friends or the Internet.

I also encourage parents who have had ‘the talk’ with their kids to encourage other parent friends to talk to their kids about the issues revolving around sex.

    1) Can you be more specific about when you think it’s “too late” to have the talk? Should parents be talking to their kids when they’re in 3rd grade (8-9 years old)? Is 4th or 5th grade (9-11 years) too late?

    2) Is your Playboy Radio show at 1pm California time? (10am EST)

    Its 1pm west coast 4pm east coast.

    I am going to do a longer post on this later, but thank you for asking. I think that parents should give a few different versions of the talk. I think in preschool the basic anatomy, keep this private, no one should ever touch you there talk.

    Then at age 9-11 is when kids start talking on the playground, thats when i think the ‘sex talk’ about relationships and the possibility of diseases and being in love.

    I am going to post more details about this in the next few days, thank you for the suggestion about timing!
