Check Your Arrogance at the Door

Shannon is a 16 year old from Maryland. She enjoys writing, is pro recycling, and loves the Jonas Brothers.

Talent is an incredibly attractive quality in a guy.

But you know what’s even more enticing?

Talent AND Humility.

Conceit is very easy to detect in boys. They usually send out a vibe of arrogance that is evident from the very first time you meet them. When they boast and brag it make any of their other appealing characteristics much less noticeable. Suddenly, all girls can see is yet another shallow, repetitive, self-important male. That bores and annoys us, so we’ll move on to someone else.

Humility makes guys more relatable. They don’t speak only about themselves and are interested in topics that aren’t completely superficial, it making meaningful conversation a possibility.

In my experience, I’ve noticed that many characteristics come in pairs. If a guy is cocky then a not-so-nice attitude is usually part of the packaged deal. Boys who are self-absorbed tend to prejudge others, many times in a superficial nature.

On the flip side, boys who are modest tend to be more mature. They know they’re talented but don’t dwell on it. They let it be a part of their personality instead of the entire thing. Plus, as an added bonus, maturity is often accompanied by one or more of the following qualities: consideration, attentiveness, kindness, and/or thoughtfulness.

Humility is the key to girls’ affection. A guy can be the most talented person in the entire world but if he’s cocky, that can outweigh his skills in a matter of minutes. It’s all about being humble.
