I remember the day I taught my mom to text. I probably should never have done it. Not only did it take an agonizingly long time to teach her, but for a good few weeks she texted me constantly with inane things like smiley faces and “hi’s”…and I thought tweens were bad (I do really though: iluvumom!)
Here are a few quick ways to communicate with your texting, iming, type savvy teens. Just the essentials here, you can find a whole list of 1000 on google.
1. 2MORO – TOMORROW
2. 2NITE – TONIGHT
3. 411 – INFORMATION
4. ADR – ADDRESS
5. ASAP – AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
6. AMAP – AS MANY/MUCH AS POSSIBLE
Example: “need AMAP 411 about 2nite, what adr ASAP”
7. BZ – BUSY
8. DNBL8 – DO NOT BE LATE
9. WBS – WRITE BACK SOON
10. 911 – Something is wrong
*My parents and I always had a code word if something was wrong, and this was (of course) our code text, only to be texted in a real emergency.
Your teens or tweens might not know all of these, but it will be easier on your thumbs, so print it and make sure they know ‘em!
PS. I left out some of the obvious ones, because, duh, they are obvious.
