You know where fat kids come from? Fat parents! Its not genetics... its sedentary people stuffing their faces with mountains of junk. When obese kids try to lose weight, fat parents actively sabotage and discourage them - I've seen it too many times to count.

I grew up a 'husky' kid (kind word of the 70's for fat) and now that I am a 40+ first-time father of a one year old little girl I will do everything in my power to make sure she doesn't lead a sedentary lifestyle. Playing outside, being inquisitive about the real word around her will be an important part of her upbringing. I just hope others like myself wake up and realize the potential, life-long damage that can occur by mimicking a parent's behavior - which is how I grew up and chose to change recently after I hit that magic 40 year mark on the way to becoming a Dad.

Very interesting. We've gone the radical route of kicking the TV out or our house. We will still have to battle technology--but it is a step to cut back on the sedentary activities in the home.
