First you must read this article on the end of newspapers. http://www.shirky.com/weblog/2009/03/newspapers-and-thinking-the-unthinkable/

Second, I both agree and disagree. In my own post on this same topic I focus on a few different points. http://philosophywithoutahome.blogspot.com/2009/04/end-of-newspapers.html

I think the quality news will rise to the top. Quality news blogs will have; well researched articles, clear references to sources, and will have quality writing (even if a few typos slip through).

At least I hope they do, if not then other other option is opinion blogs.

It all depends on if we as readers can learn to read critically and demand quality as high or higher as the New York Times.

I kinda believe that blog is the new newspaper.. but i don't really think that newspaper and magazine will go to an end. because there's still groups of people out there that prefer newspaper and magazines to blogs somehow.
anyway, it's an interesting article read!

Great point! Thank you for adding that, I hope there are still the staples that will be around!

I just got back from a major newspaper conference and I didn't hear anything more to the point about our industry than this.

But, one additional point needs to be made: Newspapers still have a huge audience. And their audiences have a lot of clout. Decision-makers still read newspapers. Leaders still read newspapers. They find they must to keep up on what is being said and done.
