I love how you mentioned all of this information in this article its great! I myself have traveled on my own last summer to Ghana, Africa. I was 17 at the time, and couldn't thank my parents enough for being so laid back about it... I have to say it was definitely the most amazing experience of my life so far and I would love to go back. Although, I will be going to Ecuador this summer so I'm pretty excited for that as well. This is the organization I volunteered for www.globalcrossroad.com (overall its not that bad of a program-depending on what you consider to be your standard living level.) Check it out if you're interested.

Such an awesome article! I am glad that teens are talking about this kind of stuff and thinking about traveling the world. It;s something that a lot of people put off until they are retired!

Another thing some people may want to consider if they are a bit nervous about the complete solo adventure is doing a "homestay". This usually involves staying with a "host family" and living their lifestyle for a couple of weeks or even a few months. When I was living in Japan, I met a ton of young people who were there doing a homestay, learning about Japanese language, culture, history and traditions.

Thanks for the great post!
