What is the biggest misconception you think parents have about teens?

The biggest misconception parents have about teens, I would have to say is their opinion that teens don’t listen.

If there is one thing you could tell parents about teens what would it be?

I would tell parents that we do listen, but we don’t interpret it or act on what we hear as fast as they want us to.

What is your favorite website?

Math-only because by some miracle, I am good with numbers.

Least favorite thing about high school, most favorite thing about high school:

My least favorite thing would be my shortness because I end up getting pushed around and other peers see me as a middle schooler! My favorite thing about high school would have to be lunchtime, a time to eat, socialize and just chill…only for forty minutes.

That we are all irresponsible and can’t think for ourselves, when really there is only some like that.

If there is one thing you could tell parents about teens what would it be?

That high school is extremely tough, and we are constantly surrounded by so much peer pressure, and things have changed since you went.

Least favorite thing is probably the immaturity in some people and just the negative atmosphere.

What do you want to be when you grow-up?
When I grow up I see myself as an author of teen romantic novels.

What is your dream job? (If money/practicality does not matter!)
My dream job is to be an author. I love to write, and I just want other teens out there to enjoy the stories that I write.

Do you know what you want to study in college?
I want to study journalism and English literature in college.

Do you know where you want to go to college?
Right now, I am considering NYU as a choice, but no I am not set on where I want to go.

What is the biggest misconception you think parents have about teens?
Parents always assume that their teens are up to no good. Why can’t they just listen to what their teens are saying, instead of assuming and jumping to conclusions?

If there is one thing you could tell parents about teens what would it be?
Teenagers need their space. It’s hard for parents to accept this, but we really don’t want to do all the things we used to do as little kids. We want our own independence. The teen years are a time when we struggle to find our own self-identity.

What is your favorite website?
Facebook.com and people.com

Least favorite thing about high school, most favorite thing about high school:
The least thing I like about high school is the SAT. We have so much pressure instilled upon us to get the highest scores, which can either make or break us when applying to get into the college of our dreams.  My favorite thing about high school is all the activities and clubs that are offered. By joining a variety of clubs, I was able to branch out and meet new people.

We get similar, if not the same, pressures you get in school, work, and social situations.

What is your favorite website?
Facebook, Perez Hilton

Least favorite thing about high school, most favorite thing about high school:
Most: Social gatherings (and learning new things, of course). Least: Teachers who cannot answer questions (or give logical responses)
