“I want to start a movement where girls push back the stereotypes, false labels and images that surround us.”

And that is, in a nutshell, Carrie Silver-Stock’s mission with her book Secrets Girls Keep. Composed of quizzes, tips and real stories, Secrets Girls Keep is a self-esteem boosting handbook for girls.

What I love about this book is that no topic is off limits. Everything from sexting to getting a job is mentioned. At the same time, no topic is waved away as less important than another. Each is treated with the care and respect it deserves. It not only mentions topics that teens do discuss but the topics that teens should be discussing. This book brings the best elements of a magazine without the “you’re not pretty enough, buy something I’m advertising” undertones. It offers the information young girls need in order to lead better lives.

“Real life dating and love are about respecting each other and not being put down. Take a stand for respect and encourage your friends to do the same.” This is just one of the golden nuggets of wisdom spilled through Secrets Girls Keep. Through her work with girls, Silver-Stock has discovered “The Seven Tips Every Girl Needs to Deal with Any Problem” and she’s sharing them with the world.

Tip One: You Gotta Use Your Gut

Tip Two: Discover Your Strengths and Use Them

Tip Three: Choose the Right Friends and Respect Them

Tip Four: Be Courageous and Confident

Tip Five: Be Fit and Stay Fit

Tip Six: Dream Big

Tip Seven: Get Outside of Yourself

Although it seems unlikely at first, Silver-Stock is able to apply the seven tips to most situations. They’re short, easy to understand, and woven with hope and encouragement.

All girls should have a peek or two at Secrets Girls Keep. It has the rare ability to reach all girls and make them empathize with each other. It’s a handbook and a journal. It’s where the wise advice lies when friends steer you wrong. It’s Secrets Girls Keep by Carrie Silver-Stock.

“…this book holds the simple secrets to living your best life and to being savvy, smart, and successful.”
