In an age where the environment and what state it’s in is a pressing issue, more and more teenagers are turning to volunteering. Volunteering is both a community and a personal gain; a simple trash clean up will help the surrounding communities, but the personal gain one gains from volunteering is much more than that. Here are 3 websites that are will help any teenager or adult find specifically what they are looking for.
1. United Way-http://www.liveunited.org/?
Pro- The website offers multiple ways to make a difference including giving, advocating, and volunteering. You can also customize your volunteer search to where you are, how old you are, and what you are looking to do.
Con- You must reenter your information if you want to look up multiple areas of service.
2. Do Something- http://www.dosomething.org/
Pro- This website has a lot of opportunities to win up to $1,000 grants for groups with a project plan. There are also contests featured on the website in which the grand prize is a scholarship.
Con- In order to access the maximum amount of volunteer information, you have to sign-up for a free account. It doesn’t take long, but it is a hassle to log in every time you go to the site.
3. Volunteer Match- http://www.volunteermatch.org/
Pro-This website has a lot to offer and gives you the freedom of typing in the keyword of what area of volunteering you would like to do. The search is customized, which is great when you are looking for something specific.
Con-I was disappointed when the search didn’t have an age range on the volunteering opportunities. Most opportunities have age guidelines that are important when deciding what you are going to volunteer at.
