Technology and the Internet have greatly changed this generation of youth, parents and families. In this presentation, Vanessa Van Petten will go over how to parent with both safety and savvy amidst all of the technology. Why are kids and teens obsessed with virtual worlds and social networks like Club Penguin, Facebook, IM and online gaming? How can parents make sure their kids are being safe in the online space, while still giving them freedom to explore and learn from the wealth of digital resources now available on the internet and through their mobile devices. Vanessa covers many issues that now arise with technology: sexting, cyberbullying and internet addiction. Vanessa delves into both parenting strategies and overarching changes for this generation of digital natives. Get practical tips on how to keep kids and teens safe BEFORE problems arise.

About Vanessa Van Petten
Vanessa Van Petten is one of the nation’s youngest experts, or ‘youthologists’ on parenting and adolescents. She wrote her first parenting book, “You’re Grounded,” from the teen’s perspective when she was just 17. After winning the Mom’s Choice Award in 2009, she launched her popular parenting website, RadicalParenting.com, which she now writes with 120 other teenagers to answer questions from parents on everything from communication issues to cyberbullying. Vanessa’s unique approach has been featured by CNN, CBS Miami, Fox New York, Wall Street Journal, Teen Vogue, and many more.
