“There’s a hundred and four days of summer vacation and school comes around just to end it. So the annual problem for our generation is finding a good way to spend it”

These wise words come from our friends Phineas and Ferb, the two friends from Disney’s animated musical comedy series with the same name, who seem like they truly do have an endless summer. Phineas and Ferb are not just two kids that are bored during the summer. They are innovators, creators, inventors, they are the perfect example of what teens today should strive to achieve during summer vacation.

Everyday Phineas and Ferb create something new and their day is filled with excitement and surprises. They not only imagine it, but they make their ideas come to life. Summer vacation is the time to stay proactive, don’t just let your time idle away without doing something you’ve always wanted to do. You are never too young to start something big.

Thought of making a website? Do it!

Thought of writing a book? Do it!

Thought of designing a sports car? Do it!

Many teens have started something big. Just look at Catherine Cook who started Myearbook.com when she was just 17 years old, or Juliette Brindak’s brand for adolescent girls, Miss O and Friends. Mark Zuckerburg was just 20 years old when first launching Facebook not knowing it would be the world’s leading social networking site today. Even Vanessa Van Petten, the creator of this website, started when she was just a teen.

Even if your idea is not as huge as Facebook or RadicalParenting—this may sound cheesy—you really CAN do anything you put your mind to. We need more teens like Catherine, Juliette, Mark, and Vanessa. Teens that follow their dreams and make a difference in this world. While your peers are wasting their time playing video games and laying around by the pool getting their tan on this summer, you can be the next Mark Zuckerberg before your 18th birthday.

This summer is all about staying proactive and doing something different. Teens you can be the one to discover something that doesn’t exist. Your dream can turn into reality if this summer you stay proactive and just do it. If Phineas and Ferb can do it, you can too.
