School Counselor’s Corner: Q&A with Dr. A

Allison K. Agliata, Ph.D., is our amazing school counselor for Radical Parenting. Her column addresses some great issues for parents and teens.

About Dr. A:

Dr. Allison Agliata (“Dr. A”) is a licensed psychologist and currently serves as a school counselor at Carrollwood Day School (CDS) in Tampa, FL. CDS is a International Baccalaureate private school that educates Toddlers through High School students.  CDS is also a Blue Ribbon School and National School of Character.

Dr. A earned her Undergraduate Degree in Psychology, Master’s Degree in Psychology, and Doctoral Degree in Philosophy (2005), all from the University of Central Florida.  During her graduate studies, her work focused on adolescent teasing, parent/child expectations, and body image. She completed her APA-accredited internship through the United States Air Force and served as an active duty psychologist for four years.  During that time, she had the opportunity to work within the Mental Health Clinic, Family Advocacy, New Parent Support Program, and Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program.
“My hope with RadicalParenting.com is to build stronger families by helping parents and students understand each others’ perspectives, expectations, and needs.  It has been my experience that parents typically make decisions with the best intentions, but poor communication and conflicting personalities can sometimes get in the way of family harmony.  Every child needs something different from their parents in order to feel fulfilled and thrive – my goal is to help each family reach their potential through healthy communication and strong bonds.”

Wife to fellow psychologist, Dr. Dan Agliata, and mother of two little girls, Dr. A spends much of her free time with her family, traveling, and baking.  She has also recently begun volunteering for the State Emergency Responders and Volunteers of Florida (SERVFL) Medical Reserve Corps.
